Garden Transformation: A Bespoke Oak Pergola and Gazebo Built Around a Garden Pond
There's nothing better than making the most of your garden, and this project was all about creating a space the customer could enjoy throughout the year. We built two bespoke oak structures around an existing garden pond, giving the garden a fresh look while making it more practical, too.
The finished garden features a green oak pergola and an oak gazebo at the far end, with the pond sitting between the two. Both structures have their own character and purpose, but together they bring the whole garden together beautifully.

A Bespoke Oak Pergola with Traditional Character
Towards the middle of the garden, we built a green oak pergola with Tennyson sides. The natural oak gives the structure a lovely traditional look, adding character without taking away from the garden itself.
We wanted the pergola to feel like it belonged in the space, rather than looking like something that had simply been added afterwards. By working with the existing layout, we created a feature that complements the garden and helps connect the different areas.
Oak is a great choice for outdoor carpentry. Its natural grain and warm tones look fantastic in a garden, and it has a lovely character that develops as the timber weathers over time. Combined with the Tennyson sides, the pergola has plenty of detail while still keeping that open, airy feel.
As with all our bespoke projects, getting the design right for the space is just as important as the finished craftsmanship. Every garden is different, so we take the time to make sure the end result works for the customer and their home.
A Cosy Oak Gazebo for All Seasons
At the far end of the garden, we built an oak gazebo to create a sheltered seating area overlooking the existing pond.
The gazebo features clad walls, rails and a proper roof, making it a much more protected space than an open garden structure. It's somewhere the customer can sit back and enjoy the garden without having to worry quite so much about the British weather!
During the summer, it provides a lovely spot to relax in the shade and enjoy the surroundings. When the weather turns colder or wetter, the roof and sides offer extra shelter, making the seating area much more useful throughout autumn and winter.
The oak framework gives the gazebo a traditional, natural look, while the clad walls make it feel cosy and inviting. It's a great example of how a bespoke wooden structure can be both attractive and practical.
We also had to consider how the gazebo would sit within the existing garden, particularly with the pond already in place. We designed the structures around it, allowing the pond to remain a central feature of the finished garden.
Making the Most of the Space
One of the things we love about this project is how the two structures work together.
The pergola sits towards the middle of the garden, creating an open feature, while the gazebo at the far end provides a more sheltered place to sit. The pond between them helps bring everything together, making the garden feel like a well-thought-out space rather than a collection of separate features.
It's a good reminder that you don't always need to completely redesign a garden to make a big difference. Sometimes, the right additions can change how you use and enjoy the space you already have.
By building both structures to suit the garden, we were able to create something that looks right at home while giving the customer more options for enjoying their outdoor space.
